What is Habbo Hotel?

Habbo Hotel is a social networking game and online community. In 2023, you will find that most players are above 20, despite originally intended for teenagers. This is likely because players have grew up, since the game was launched in 2000. In addition to that, majority of the current playerbase are veteran players, all the way back since the golden years of Habbo over 10 years ago, such as myself.

Key Features of Habbo Hotel:

1. Avatars: Each player has an avatar, which they can customize in terms of appearance, clothing, and accessories. Avatars can walk around the hotel rooms, interact with furnitures, and chat with other players.

2. Social Interactions: One of the primary purposes of Habbo is social interaction. Players can chat, join groups, attend events, and more. Friendships and even virtual relationships are quite common in the community.

3. Virtual Rooms: Players can create and customize their own hotel rooms with various types of furniture such as chair, table, fridge, and almost any furniture you could think of. These rooms can be private or public, allowing other players to visit. Usually, these rooms are either for general hangout or for hosting community-based game event where players can play various kinds of games to win some credits as a reward for winning the game from a host, which are other player.

4. Activities & Mini-Games: Within the hotel, there are various mini-games and activities. Some of these are community-based as described in first point, while others are official games created by Habbo developers themselves.

What are Habbo credits?

Habbo credits ("Credits") is the virtual currency used within the Habbo Hotel. It is commonly referred to as: (i) 'c' which stands for credits, or (ii) 'gbs' which stands for goldbars, equivalent to 50 credits, or (iii) 'pure' in Habbo rare trading community. Similar to how we use fiat money in the real world, Credits serve as a medium of exchange within the game.

Credits are "printed" and introduced into circulation when players make a direct purchase from Habbo using real-world money. Conversely, if you buy Credits from other players, such as from NikGTBM, this doesn't introduce any new Credits. In fact, due to the Marketplace tax on player-to-player trades, a small percentage of the transacted Credits are removed or "burned", leading to a deflationary effect.

Credits can be spent on various in-game items and services, including avatar clothes, room furniture, and a monthly membership known as "Habbo Club". Credits are also commonly used to reward participants in game events or contests.

What is Habbo in-game marketplace?

Habbo in-game marketplace ("Marketplace") is a convenient way to sell Habbo items. You can list items for sale there for up to 48 hours and check back to see if they've sold. You can sell all your items through the Marketplace, except for pets and items purchased with Duckets.

Marketplace is useful for several different reasons: (1) finding older, rarer items that aren’t currently available in the Shop and in some cases never again will be available from the Shop either, (2) sell whatever items you don't want or sell your items for profit, (3) getting certain items for a better price than you would do otherwise.

To use the Marketplace you'll need a Trading Pass. There is an achievement category named "Trading pass". You need to complete all the achievements in that category to unlock your trading pass and thereby enable trading. Please check individual achievements for more details about specific requirements. If you’ve been trade locked by the moderation team, you won’t be able to use the Marketplace (or trade at all) until the trade lock is removed.

You are able to sell any item which is tradable by highlighting it in your inventory and clicking on the 'Sell in Marketplace' button. Items you put up for sale remain in the Marketplace for 48 hours. Unsold items will be automatically returned to your inventory when they expire after 48 hours.

I have not played Habbo for ages. What should I know before joining back?

Welcome back to Habbo Hotel! Habbo had undergone numerous changes over the years, both in terms of game mechanics and its community. Before you dive back in, here are some beneficial things to know:

1. Marketplace: This feature allows players to buy and sell their furniture. Prices can vary depending on rarity and demand, so it might be interesting to check if any of your old items have become rare or sought after.

2. Vault: When you get credits from other players, like through the Marketplace, these credits go into your Vault, not your purse. At first, the Vault is "locked." This means if you try to move credits from your Vault to your purse, you'll be charged a huge tax. To avoid this tax, you need to "unlock" the Vault. To do this, buy at least 50 credits directly from Habbo using real money. Remember, special offers won't unlock the Vault.

3. Habbo Club & Builders Club: These are premium memberships in Habbo. If you were a member before or are considering joining, it might be worth checking out any changes or new features associated with these memberships.

4. New Habbo Client: Habbo announced that it would be transitioning from Flash (which has been discontinued) to Unity. Luckily for us, Habbo also offer the Classic client which you can download on your computer to enjoy the gameplay and interface that is close to what you remember.

5. Mobile Access: Habbo has been adapted to be accessible on mobile devices, which makes it more versatile for players who wish to access the game on-the-go.
